Test Death Trooper for Star Wars: Legion

Hey all!

Okay, got the last planned box of Star Wars minis... the Death Troopers!  That's the end of the line for me, for now.

But I am really struggling with the painting... painting armor is never easy, but BLACK armor?!  UGH.

So I thought I would post and ask... what do folks think?

Painted Rebel Pathfinders for Star Wars Legion

Hey all!

Well, I painted up my Rebel Pathfinders (minus one, as the wrong parts came in the bag for the figure.)  For these guys I went a LOT more uniform... I imagine them being sort of the Rebel Special Forces, likely some sort of actual military unit at one point, and so they are pretty uniform.  I did give one guy pants to match my other rebels to tie them in a bit.

Overall I'm very happy with these guys... they turned out pretty sharp!

Star Wars Legion: Rebel Specialists expansion, painted!

Hi all!

Well, as I mentioned, I HAVE been painting... and here is the latest Legion figures, the Rebel expansion!

Now I didn't get too creative with these, and went with roughly the standard paint job for the commander.  I did add an earing, though, and I did give the female specialist longer hair.

These guys, I went full traditional.  I think the touch of gloss on the medical droids syringe worked well!

Rebel 1.4 FD cannon for Star Wars Legion, painted!

Hi all!

Well here is the next piece of painted Star Wars Legion gear, a painted Rebel 1.4 FD gun emplacement!

Now, everyone knows these from Hoth, and they DO come with Echo base troops, but I found that I could paint them up to match the current guys easy enough.

As long as the basing worked, then the gun was fine.  Overall happy with how they turned out!

Han Solo and Chewie, painted, for Star Wars Legion

Hey all!

Well, as I mentioned, I painted a TON of Legion stuff recently... so here are Han and Chewie.

Chewie is a great model, but looking at him, I really should have taken the time to sculpt a bit of fur to cover up the joints... I've just gotten a bit lazy, I think?

Han is a MUCH nicer figure than I expected... I find that the Legion figures photograph SO poorly; the photos rarely get across their heftiness.

I painted Han's coat to match the camo scheme of my rebel troopers, so he fits in but still looks like Han.

The Emperor and his guard, for Star Wars Legion

And here is the master of the Sith himself, the Emperor... Palpatine!

The moment they announced these guys, I knew I had to have them.  I am not sure how well it shows in the photo, but I did make sure to give Palp the yellow eyes and reddish eye sockets that he has when he is shown at his scariest.

For the Royal Guard, I DID veer from canon a bit... Instead of doing the darker crimson underclothes, I went with just a solid red color for the entire outfit.  I think it turned out nice... I wanted them to be VERY uniform.  The only question... do I gloss their helmets?

All told, some cool figures (although the fit is a bit rough!)

Star Wars Legion Wookies, painted!

Hey all!

Okay, I've got a BUNCH of Star Wars Legion figures painted up over the last few weeks, so I've got to share them!

I've really enjoyed doing the figures (well, not the Stormtroopers) and was looking forward to these wookies!

They are IMPOSING figures... just HUGE.  I wanted to keep them a bit individual... I feel like wookie fur should have patterns and differences.  So I went with a blonde wookie, an older wookie, a black haired wookie, and a brown wookie.

Overall very happy with how they turned out... they just LOOM over their enemies!

Coming up?  A rebel laser cannon, Han and Chewie, and Emperor Palpatine and his guard!

Star Wars Legion Commando Snipers

Hey all!

Well, another week, another group of Legion figures!

This time, it is the sniper/spotter team from the Commandos boxed set.  I really do like these figures... both aliens, which is cool.  I also decided to do a little ghillie work with them, to mirror the Scout sniper I did earlier.  I DID keep them a bit more "modest" than that figure, however... they have half-cloaks of sorts to keep them hidden.

Their basic camo pattern is the same as the other rebels... what sets them apart is the ghillie cloaks.

Overall I'm pretty happy with them... got a few more figures to paint up.

More Stormtroopers for Legion...

Well, another unit of Stormtroopers, all painted up!

They are simple but annoying to paint.  White undercoat, black bits, and then lining with brown wash and some cleanup, and thats it.  But ugh, painting white sucks.  Like, for real.

It reminds me of TIE fighters for Armada... you need a lot of them, and they suck to paint!

And here are the Stormtroopers with a bounty hunter!

Legion Scout Troopers painted...

Hey all!

Well, a bit more of my completed Legion forces!

I have a bunch of Rebels painted up, so I wanted to get some Imperials done... and you can't have a Stormtrooper legion without support!

So here are the Scout troopers, ready to advance quickly on the enemy!

I know I posted my Scout sniper before, with his ghillie suit, but here you can also see the saboteur and the rest of the crew.

Overall I'm happy with how they turned out... always loved Scout troopers!

Boba Fett for Legion!

Hi all!

Well, it's been quiet as HELL lately... work and life have been a bit overwhelming, and I've spent a lot of time on Red Dead Redemption lately, sooo...

But I have enjoyed painting up some Legion troops (well, not the Stormtroopers, but...) so I thought I would post!

Here is one of the few heroes I've painted... Boba Fett!  I didn't want to have him on that clear base, so I just matched up the height using rocks, and then pinned him to it.  I also left the flames off of the packback.

I did go a bit simple with his paintjob... I didn't go over the top on weathering or anything... because I think they look better when they are sharp.

Anyway... I'm happy with how he turned out... hopefully some more bounty hunters are on the way!  And in the meantime, I'll paint what I can:)

Star Wars Legion Scout Sniper painted!

Hi all!

Well, I painted up a Stormtrooper Scout sniper for Star Wars Legion!

I did want to get a little ridiculous with this one, and get him all covered up... so I have him hiding behind a stump, behind a bush, and covered with a ghillie cover!

You can JUST see him with his helmet visible under the cover here.

I made the cover out of greenstuff, and then painted it, and then used a few different green "things" to cover it up... some static grass, some flock, some leaves, and then I left a few bits with bare paint because I thought it broke up the silhouette well!

Painted Star Wars Legion Fleet Troopers!

Hey all!

Well, I picked up a box of Fleet Troopers for Star Wars Legion, and got them painted up!

Their paint scheme is a bit different than normal... I wanted a uniform that would match my finished Rebel Troopers and go well with my basing scheme.

I did only a single conversion, taking a head from a plastic Star Wars Bith figure and using the head on this guy.

Overall I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.  I did realize that I forgot one element of the basing (the leaves) so I have to go back and add those, but overall they are basically done.

Next up, some Scout Troopers!

AT-ST painted for Star Wars: Legion!

Hey all!

Well, FINALLY a blog update, because I've FINALLY painted the darn AT-ST!

The posing of it was a bit tricky... I wanted it to look like it was in motion, because AT-STs look very cool when they are walking... awkward and spindly and cool:)

It wasn't too tough of a paint... several coats of successively light gray.  I enjoyed the weathering... brown and black inks, and some silver and brown-silver sponging to create a bit of chipping.

Next up, another group of Stormtroopers... and I ordered a set of Fleet Troopers and Scout Troopers to tackle next!

Painted Luke Skywalker, Speeder Bikes, and an AT-RT for Legion

Hey all!

Well, some more from the Star Wars: Legion coreset is all painted up!

Namely, the two speeder bikes, the AT-RT, and Luke Skywalker!

The bikes were a bit of a pain... I made the mistake of glueing the riders to the bikes and then undercoating the whole thing black... foolish me!  Still, they turned out pretty nicely:)

Here is the rebel AT-RT!  I went SUPER simple with it... just grays and metallics for the walker itself.  I considered doing a few details in color, but I think I really like the monochromatic look.

And here is Luke himself!  I am not thrilled with how he turned out... not sure why, but something doesn't sit right.  Maybe his face needs a bit more highlighting?

As always, the basing didn't disappoint; love how busy and wild these bases are:)

So one last bit to go (the last Stormtrooper squad) and then I'm done with the core set.  Thanks for coming by and looking!

Painted Stormtroopers from Star Wars: Legion

Hey all!

Well, I got my first squad of Stormtroopers painted up for Legion!

(Well, not totally painted... just realized I didn't black out the darn bases!  But I'm too lazy to rephotograph them:) )

I did them undercoated white, with a pinwash of Agrax earthshade, and then another highlight of pure white.  It was a bit tedious, but it looks REALLY sharp in person!

Based them like my rebels, with the dense jungle theme.

Overall they turned out pretty great.  They really don't photograph well... they are bulky and dangerous looking, but in the photos I find that they look a bit silly, especially around the helmets.

Legion's Darth Vader, painted!

Well, the Legion run continues with the Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Vader!

I ended up going with gloss on his armored pieces... I am not entirely sure if it works.  Thoughts?

Painted Rebels from Star Wars: Legion

Hey all!

Well, I got my hands on Star Wars: Legion and got a few miniatures painted up!

I wanted this group to look a bit different... so I went with a pea dot camo that was used in World War 2... fairly unique, I think!

I also did a few simple modifications... just some head swaps, for the most part.

I also made up a twi'lek soldier by just adding some tentacles.

Obviously I wanted to go a bit crazy with the basing... I wanted something lush and jungle.  So I did rocky outcroppings out of cork, a few bush types, some grass tufts, and some bamboo.

Overall I am happy with how they turned out (although it is SO hard to get a decent photo, and I have no idea why!).  Next up is the Stormtroopers; I am NOT looking forward to all that white and armor!
