15mm ACW - Confederate Infantry 6

Well, here is my last Confederate piece from my 15mm ACW collection! I apologize for the darkness of the shots, but sometimes that just happens.

This unit has clearly been in the fight, and apparently has taken ground... you can see a few dead Federals scattered among the mens feet. This unit also has my first new 15mm ACW soldier in it; the older gent with the butternut kepi and jacket, directly behind the standard in the photo at the top. I am not sure why, but I really like him, with his neatly trimmed white beard and perfectly-colored uniform.

So... that is the end of my 15mm ACW Confederate collection! Next up; my 15mm WWII Germans, followed by my 25mm Napoleonic Russians, followed by my 15mm ACW Federals, followed by my 25mm Napoleonic Austrians (as soon as I get them painted!) I hope everyone has enjoyed!

15mm ACW - Confederate Officer

I am nearing the end of my 15mm American Civil War Confederate collection, so I thought I would post my last character figure.

This officer, with a straw hat and a VERY large caliber flintlock pistol, has been in my 15mm ACW collection for years and years. He was a part of a gift from a buddy of mine for Christmas many years ago; he painted up a few officers for my collection, I painted up an artillery battery for his collection. Over the years the guys have gone to the shelves as they have been bypassed by newer and more beautiful troops, but recently we got this guy, who was always a favorite, out and repainted and rebased him; we call it "reclaiming" an old figure. As he is a formidable bad-ass, he is surrounded by dead and dying Federals.

15mm ACW - Confederate Infantry 5

I am trying to make up a bit for the slowness in posting in the past month, so here without further ado is another unit of Confederate infantry.

This unit is another one that has been in the field for awhile, unlike the last group I posted. You can tell by the wide array of gear (hats, blankets, jackets, pants) that they carry.

The officer in particular I like. Wearing a butternut jacket and a very serious black beard, he is clearly not a fellow you would want to mess around with.

15mm ACW - Confederate Infantry 4

Finally, back to 15mm ACW!

Here is another unit of regular infantry. These southern boys are recent arrivals to the front, compared to my others. You can tell by how uniform they look; they've barely had time for their gear to fall apart yet and require replacement by anything that is at hand! In fact, I've only done a couple of non-gray pants and shirts, and only a single non-kepi among them. They've taken fewer casualties, also, than some other units as they are so new, although I think they DO have the only two-casualty stand in my Confederate collection at the moment.

The officer is a modest conversion; a head swap. While I love Battle Honors, they DO need more officers! This fellow is waving his boys forward, crouching a bit as me moves into incoming fire. I do wish that someone would do a line of figures where all of the guys are crouching a bit; men tend to do that when marching in the face of fire I think.

15mm ACW - Confederate Cavalry

It has been a LONG time since I posted a regiment from the wargames collection... darn camera stopped working! However, I am now back in business, so let me get back to business with some 15mm ACW Confederate Cavalry!

Like my artillery and my limbers, I can't stand having cavalry in ACW without dismounted version of the unit, so I figured I would include both in one entry.

My cavalry consists of three stands of three cavalrymen. When mounted they are all galloping along. When dismounted, one man per stand is holding the horses while the other two are fighting!

15mm ACW - Confederate Infantry 3

Here is another unit from my 15mm American Civil War Confederate army!

This particular unit is a group of Texans, under the command of an older chap in a rather sharp outfit. I actually did another version of this same officer on horseback as one of my generals. They have taken a few casualties already... as I have mentioned, I based my ACW army with casualties sprinkled among the stands. I like the way it ended up looking! Also, the basic stands in my Confederate army are pretty much interchangeable, with a few exceptions; that makes storage easy, as it doesn't really matter who goes in which unit!

As always, these fellows are 15mm Battle Honors.

15mm ACW - Confederate Artillery

Hello all!

First off, my deepest apologies for not keeping regular updates in the last month; I was just finishing work, and it took a LOT of time!

However, I now have two months off, so expect a return to regular updates!

I figured a good place to start would be another installment in my 15mm ACW Showcase; in this case, my Confederate artillery!

In a trick I stole from a buddy, I decided to mix up the colors of the pieces for my Southern artillery. Rather than have all black artillery pieces, as I do for my Federals, I find that the different colored pieces really help emphasize the "rag tag" look of my reb army.

I of course mixed in a few red kepis (although probably too many to be realistic for late war, but whatever, they are toy soldiers after all) to keep the artillery look. Overall I think they turned out very nice. Each piece has its own limber as well, to transport it into battle.

As with all my 15mm ACW, these fellows are from Battle Honours.

15mm ACW - Confederate Infantry 2

Hello all!

Very sorry for the long gap in posting; a very good buddy of mine came into town, and between that and a tough week at work I had no time to work on the blog!

However, here is the latest installment of the current army; another unit of 15mm American Civil War confederates!

Like the last unit these guys are done in a wide variety of greys and browns, with some other colors thrown in at random. I like the look, although it is clearly best for late war, and when compared to my Federal troops it really stands out.

This unit, like all my other 15mm ACW units, features a few dead scattered in it. I wanted to try something new with this army (I started this right after the 25mm Nappy French) and thought some dead might be neat. In the end it does look nice; I generally stick toaround two dead per unit, which is enough to look cool but not an overwhelming number.

The officer in this regiment is actually modeled on a reenacting buddy of mine. When I saw the figure it reminded me of him, with the jacket unbuttoned and everything, and so I thought I would paint him up to match! It took just a tiny bit of work (namely slicing the jacket up with an exacto razor to fashion the pleats) but overall I think he came out nicely! You can see the commander to the above left, and the real life version to the right.

As with the rest of my 15mm ACW armies, these guys are all Battle Honours, with flags, as usual, from Rick the Flag Dude.

15mm ACW - Confederate Infantry

Now that I have shown the command stands for my 15mm American Civil War Confederate force, it is time to start in on the troops.

First up is a unit of Southern infantry. For the vast majority of my southern troops I painted them a real hodge-podge of colors, with no real uniformity to most of the units. The infantry stands are actually mix-and-matchable; there are very few "set" stands for any units (there are, of course, exceptions.) This certainly makes organizing the collection easy!

I painted my 15mm ACW troops in batches of ten, glued onto popsicle sticks and then undercoated. This made it VERY easy to paint them, as I could get to the hard-to-reach spots very simply. This resulted in very neat paint jobs.

The colors, as I mentioned, are pretty varied, but they are all a simple base coat with a pretty deliberate highlight. This is perfect for 15mm, as it is dramatic enough to be noticeable but easy enough to paint quick.

I included some shots of the individual stands so that you can get a good feel for what color schemes I used and how many of each color there was. This unit is a little heavy on the grey as it stands right now; the actual force is maybe a little more varied than this one.

15mm ACW - Confederate Command 2

Fresh on the heels of my last 15mm ACW Confederate command stand, here comes the second one!

The first is a small scene of officers consulting a map and discussing strategy; that stand often looks best next to a house or a barn. This fellow, loosely modeled on General Lee, is a little more appropriate for the front! He is sitting on his horse watching his men advance around him and considering his next move. Next to him a southern soldier advances past the dead Federal soldier lying in the grass.

15mm ACW - Confederate Command 1

Now that I have finished my 25mm French Napoleonic force, I will be showing my 15mm ACW Confederate force!

As with the Napoleonics, I am beginning with the command stands. I based my 15mm ACW troops so that each army has two command stands; one of some commanders around a table talking strategy, and one of some mounted officers in the field. This is the CSA generals around their table. There is an older general with a white beard checking his map as a cavalry scout is reporting nearby Federal troops. Next to the older general is a colonel leaning on his sword, a dashing young Southern gent with a beard as firey as his temper! Two guards provide security, while another holds the reins of the scout, who must get back to the front as soon as he delivers his message.
