25mm Nap. Austrians - Artillery

Finally, back to some new miniatures!

I've actually got a decent amount of painting done in the last few months, but because of camera problems was unable to post any photos... However, here is one of my newest units; my 25mm Napoleonic Austrian artillery!

Now, my collection is split into two catagories; major armies, and minor armies. The majors are the Russians and French. My minors are the Austrians and, eventually, the British.

Keep in mind; major and minor does not relate to the historical relevance of the armies. Rather, it refers to how large I intend the collection to get! My French and Russian armies are bigger... lots of infantry, two groups of light, medium, and heavy cavalry, and two batteries of artillery.

My minors, however, will be smaller; fewer units of infantry, less cavalry and artillery. As such, this will be my ONLY Austrian artillery battery. Also, note that it does NOT have limbers or caissons, as my "major" armies do. That doesn't mean they are any less nice, of course!

Austrian artillery is rather fun to look at. The browns and yellows are a distinct contrast to the whites of the infantry, and they look awful nice together. The figures themselves are very nice; all are Sash and Saber, and the artillery feels properly sized, compared to most toy soldier artillery!

Overall I am very happy with how these fellows came out!

25mm Nap. Austrians - Infantry 2

Well, I finally finished my second unit of 25mm Napoleonic Austrians; in this case, namely the 34th Infantry. They have red cuffs and collars for identification. This unit is made up of Hungarian troops, so they differ from my Germans a bit, as they have the blue pants and shakos. However, they all look good together thanks to all of that white!

These guys were shaded with Army Painter Quick Shade (Light) and it does add a pleasant shadow to the white, which can be a very difficult color to shade and highlight, but which is all-important to an Austrian army!

Below you can see the command stands. I particularly like the commander, as his pose feels both heroic and also somewhat practical. I do have a question... I have played around a bit with the settings; which pictures look better to all of you... left, or right?



Anyway, it was fun to get some more 25mm Napoleonics done... now, back to the 25mm ACW figures!

Done!

I am heading right back to 25mm Napoleonic Russians immediately, but thought I would show my first finished units of Austrians!

As stated in a multitude of posts, I did a very basic paint job on these guys and then dipped them in the Army Painter Light Shade. I then went back and added eyes and rewhitened belts, and then some Flag Dude flags finished them off! Overall I am happy with the way they turned out; very easy to do. I need to make up some movement trays, but I think I'll wait on that until the Russians are finished.

One bit of bad news; my matte varnish left a bit of the dreaded white film over the frontmost rank (of course, the front rank.) Thankfully they are white anyway, but you can see it on their helmets for sure. I am super annoyed by this, and might go back and do some repainting... for now, though, I am too annoyed to care.
