So, how would you represent...

Hey all,

I know that video games are not the typical gaming medium of readers of this blog, but since that is my current project, I wanted to ask for some help!

In the game, we need to represent that a guy can be "pinned." This means he has come under fire and is suppressed, unable to move or do very much at all.

We want to represent this using some sort of graphic over the head of the soldier in question. Right now we are considering some sort of "Spidey Sense" indicator, like Spider Man has over his head when he detects trouble...

But I did want to ask; does anyone have any idea for a simple graphical indicator we could use to indicate a guy is under fire, panicked, and pinned down?

Have the trooper drop his gun and cover his head with his arms.

How about an exclamation mark above his head?

Hey guys!

As far as the first suggestion, we are trying to avoid changing the base graphic... it is a lot of work to do each major animation (i.e. movement) so we are hoping to do it without that.

The second idea is a possibility. Thanks!

Any other suggestions are welcome!

3 red inverted "chevrons" (like officer stripe)

Do you understand what I mean? It represents the fact that soldiers want to hunker down. Red because it's not something very cool.

Since I think that you are interpreting pinned as being under fire. Why not have some bullets whistling close by his head ? Some kind of motion graphic (speed lines) ton indicate the bullets speeding by ?

Exlamation mark > he has an idea
The 3 red scratches > he is angry

So maybe the whistling by bullets gives a better clue as to what goes on with the guy
