Hi all!

Well, as I mentioned, I am currently taking apart the House of War.

That said, all is not lost, as soon I'll be having the DEN of War... albeit without a war-games table.  But still, it should look good for the time being.

Here is one of the cabinets downstairs with its new occupants... my two original packs, my original cartridge box, a repro sword and a repro kepi!

I was hoping to get one or two more things in there, but it was not to be... too crowded!

Anyway... more on the way, as the shelves will be done shortly!

The end of the House of War...

Hi all!  

What on earth is happening with that empty cabinet...?

Well... it's a bittersweet moment here at The House of War.

As many of you know (or at least whoever has kept up on this blog) I have a happy little son.  He is two and a half, and just about the kindest, most lovable child I've ever known.  He loves toy soldiers, and his toy cars (and repairing them) and is a great kid.

And now we are expecting #2... a little girl.  My collection is (OCD) complete!

However, that comes with a caveat... the toy soldier room now has to be converted over to a bedroom:(

Down will come the table, the cabinets will disappear, the prints and antiques will come down... all of it.  

Now, there IS an upside... we have a GREAT downstairs den that doubles as a guest room.  It has lots of wall space, wood paneling, great shelves, a lit gun cabinet... and guess who is taking it over to display his figures?

Yep... me!  So, I'll have some updates over the next few months as I disassemble the table and take apart the room... but the FIRST task was building these sliding-door cabinet fronts to keep my boys safe!  I'll have the "how to" soon, but thought folks might like a peek!

Some day the House of War will return... I do anticipate, someplace down the line, having a permanent man cave in a future home, with several tables and a lot of other extras.  So, someday, I'll be back with something great.  In the meantime, however, a lot of the great photo opportunities will be on hold, with only the smaller projects and all featured.

So!  I hope everyone can stick with me while the House of War becomes something else!

Four new 25mm Wargames Factory Apocalypse survivors assembled...

Hey all!

Okay, I assembled four more!  It is funny... these individual figures paint up SO fast that I am CONSTANTLY having to assemble!  These four should see me through a few days, at least...

I hate the sandals, though, on the fat guy... on the next one I have to sculpt some shoes on there.

Three more 28mm Apocalypse survivors painted

Well, I got paint on my next three survivors... a serious looking young lady with an AR, a guy in a dirty orange sweatshirt, and a guy armed with a Louisville slugger baseball bat.

Overall, again, I am happy with how they turned out.

And here is the whole group together!

Hi all!

Well, three more assembled and awaiting paint!  I used the center guy's tie to actually be a backpack strap.  Overall they turned out well; I think they'll look good painted.

Next 25mm zombie survivor!

Here she is!

Took a bit of green stuff to make the straps, and I added a bit of hair and some arm work, but overall I am happy with her!

Might need to take a new photo after work today, though, as this one looks a tiny bit grainy to me.  I also need to be more careful with the glue on the bases, as it really obscures the natural texture of the base.

Some wonderful gifts

Well, I thought I would FINALLY get around to posting some great gifts I've gotten over the last year!

First up is pictured above... an old cartridge box!  My former boss found it in his father-in-law's house, and figured I was the perfect person to appreciate it! A buddy of mine guessed that it was a NY National Guard box, maybe the 7th.  It came with four rounds in it; again, the guess is trap door Springfield rounds.  What a great gift, right?

Now, I am an elementary school teacher, and I do enjoy teaching social studies (who would have guessed?)  Over the years I've had a few kids (okay, more than a few) who have really enjoyed the class, and I've ever gotten a few SS-connected gifts!

Above are a set of soldiers one student made for me.  He LOVES making paper models and soldiers (I tried to turn him on to Scott Washburn over at Paper Terrain...) and made these guys for me at the end of the year!  Not sure if the uniform's are 100 percent correct, but who cares?:)

I also had another student last year who REALLY enjoyed our study of the Civil War.  He has now dragged his family to a half dozen battlefields, and even participated in his first reenactment just a few weeks ago!  Well, his family gave me TWO great gifts.  The infantry symbol above was recovered on the Gettysburg battlefield, and was given to me as an end-of-year gift.  What a GREAT one, right?

 

And the same family gave me this company badge when they got back from a family trip to Gettysburg!  Beautiful, right?

So!  Thought people might appreciate a quartet of fantastic, House of War gifts!:)

Next three survivors done... and some WIP

Hey all!

Okay, three next survivors complete!  From left to right... my version of Michonne (already finished), my Rick Grimes, a guy with a baseball cap, work boots, and a few tattoos, and an older gent in a sweatshirt with a pretty nice light wood AK.  All kitted out with plenty of gear (and each one with at least one canteen, of course!)

I am still figuring out what I am going to do, basing-wise.  I think I like the wood, the dry looking grass... I'll add a few more details here and there, including doing some yellow road lines and the like.  Overall, I'm happy with how they have come together (even if I am struggling with taking photos of them, for some reason.)

Here are my next two; a more military-style, practically-posed badass, and then a little nod to the hot woman heroine, albeit while double-gunning it.

Howdy all!

Well, I am hard at work on my 25mm Wargames Factory apocalypse survivors.  One of the big things I thought about with this project is that I really wanted my guys and gals to be carrying all of the things you would need to survive in the zombie apocalypse.  The sets themselves don't come with fantastic baggage... some great smaller packs and the like, but no good backpacks.

So!  I had to find some good packs... and find, I did!

Thanks to the Bits of War guys and the Kromlech guys, I found some fantastic packs.  Here is the link:

Great, right?  Twice of what is pictured above, for seven euros!  Not bad!  A great selection of larger packs, smaller bags, canteens, and the like.  Below is a shot of them as they come.

They arrived from Poland in about a week, five or six sets in total.  Not bad, right?  Overall I am SUPER happy with how they look... they give a good beaten down, heavily laden look.

Anyway... hope they are of some use to folks!:)

Here you go!  A bit more to go (more on some than others) and obviously basing, but they are coming together I think.  When they are finished up I'll post more detailed shots, including of the guy on the left's shoulder tattoo!
