Next 25mm zombie survivor!

Here she is!

Took a bit of green stuff to make the straps, and I added a bit of hair and some arm work, but overall I am happy with her!

Might need to take a new photo after work today, though, as this one looks a tiny bit grainy to me.  I also need to be more careful with the glue on the bases, as it really obscures the natural texture of the base.

Some wonderful gifts

Hi all!

Well, I thought I would FINALLY get around to posting some great gifts I've gotten over the last year!

First up is pictured above... an old cartridge box!  My former boss found it in his father-in-law's house, and figured I was the perfect person to appreciate it! A buddy of mine guessed that it was a NY National Guard box, maybe the 7th.  It came with four rounds in it; again, the guess is trap door Springfield rounds.  What a great gift, right?

Now, I am an elementary school teacher, and I do enjoy teaching social studies (who would have guessed?)  Over the years I've had a few kids (okay, more than a few) who have really enjoyed the class, and I've ever gotten a few SS-connected gifts!

Above are a set of soldiers one student made for me.  He LOVES making paper models and soldiers (I tried to turn him on to Scott Washburn over at Paper Terrain...) and made these guys for me at the end of the year!  Not sure if the uniform's are 100 percent correct, but who cares?:)

I also had another student last year who REALLY enjoyed our study of the Civil War.  He has now dragged his family to a half dozen battlefields, and even participated in his first reenactment just a few weeks ago!  Well, his family gave me TWO great gifts.  The infantry symbol above was recovered on the Gettysburg battlefield, and was given to me as an end-of-year gift.  What a GREAT one, right?

And the same family gave me this company badge when they got back from a family trip to Gettysburg!  Beautiful, right?

So!  Thought people might appreciate a quartet of fantastic, House of War gifts!:)

Next three survivors done... and some WIP

Hey all!

Okay, three next survivors complete!  From left to right... my version of Michonne (already finished), my Rick Grimes, a guy with a baseball cap, work boots, and a few tattoos, and an older gent in a sweatshirt with a pretty nice light wood AK.  All kitted out with plenty of gear (and each one with at least one canteen, of course!)

I am still figuring out what I am going to do, basing-wise.  I think I like the wood, the dry looking grass... I'll add a few more details here and there, including doing some yellow road lines and the like.  Overall, I'm happy with how they have come together (even if I am struggling with taking photos of them, for some reason.)

Here are my next two; a more military-style, practically-posed badass, and then a little nod to the hot woman heroine, albeit while double-gunning it.

Some great 25mm / 28mm canteens and backpacks and...

Howdy all!

Well, I am hard at work on my 25mm Wargames Factory apocalypse survivors.  One of the big things I thought about with this project is that I really wanted my guys and gals to be carrying all of the things you would need to survive in the zombie apocalypse.  The sets themselves don't come with fantastic baggage... some great smaller packs and the like, but no good backpacks.

So!  I had to find some good packs... and find, I did!

Thanks to the Bits of War guys and the Kromlech guys, I found some fantastic packs.  Here is the link:

And here is the photo from their website:

Great, right?  Twice of what is pictured above, for seven euros!  Not bad!  A great selection of larger packs, smaller bags, canteens, and the like.  Below is a shot of them as they come.

They arrived from Poland in about a week, five or six sets in total.  Not bad, right?  Overall I am SUPER happy with how they look... they give a good beaten down, heavily laden look.

Anyway... hope they are of some use to folks!:)

WIP for the next three survivors...

Here you go!  A bit more to go (more on some than others) and obviously basing, but they are coming together I think.  When they are finished up I'll post more detailed shots, including of the guy on the left's shoulder tattoo!

Michonne, all finished up!

Hi all!

Okay, looks like Michonne is all finished up!  I had a REALLY hard time taking a decent photo, though... but still, good enough to get the idea.

Here she is to the right from the back...I sculpted the blanket roll, but the rest is all from the sprues.

Also, here are the other three, all undercoated.  I love how an undercoat pulls green stuff and grey plastic together:)

Three more 28mm Zombie Survivors put together

Howdy all!

Okay, three more survivors done!  One is supposed to be a bit of a Rick Grimes from The Walking Dead.  I also did a guy in an undershirt with a backwards baseball cap, and another with a sweatshirt.

All of my extra bags and stuff also arrived (I'll take more detailed photos of those soon for another post) and so the guys are carrying what they need... a few blanket rolls, and all, of course, have a canteen.

Anyone want to buy a few sprues of survivors?

Hi all!

As I mentioned in my last post, I bought a few boxes of these survivors... but since it is three identical sprues, I'll probably only use two from each box, because trying to get THREE identical bodies looking different is basically impossible.

So... does anyone want to buy a sprue of women and a sprue of men?  I can, of course, add some bits from the bits frame as wanted.  Say... $12 plus shipping (which should only be a couple of bucks?)  If you are interested, shoot me an email at grenadierguardscampaigns AT yahoo DOT com.

My NEWEST project... Zombie Survivors!

Hi all!

Well, I was mucking about, trying to think about what project I would like to tackle next!  I am not really in the mood to paint armies, and honestly am sort of more interested in smaller, individualized projects with some modeling and converting possibilities... and when I saw these Zombie Survivor kits from Wargames Factory, I thought... why not?!:)  I bought one box of the men, and one of the women.  Great little kits!

I thought I would do up a bunch of survivors.  I wanted to make them a bit more ragged and survivor-ish than the original box allows, with plenty of stowage and the like... so I eventually settled on these packs/canteens/add ons as a great way to add some character... they are from Bits of War.  Fantastic, right?

So... I plan to do a few at a time and really relax and enjoy the project.  I will do a few based on the characters from "The Walking Dead" but I'll largely do my own individuals.  I DO plan to do some converting and work on them as I go... there are three of each body and pose in the box, and I don't want triplicates, so it will take some cutting and gluing to make it all work!

Here is my first one... I couldn't wait for the bags, so used what came in the box and did a little green stuff sculpting (it will improve!)  Michonne, from The Walking Dead.  The katana looks too big in the photos, but looks good and menacing in person:)

Anyway... it should be fun!:)

First painted soldier for my son!

Hey all!

Well, I painted my first toy soldier for my son!  He has a collection of little plastic soldiers, and he picked one that was "daddy's soldier."  Daddy's Soldier has been around for a while.  I had some paints out today, and my son brought Daddy's Soldier over.  I asked if he wanted me to paint Daddy's Soldier, and he said yes!  So, five minutes later, done!  Honestly it was sort of fun... very simple, obviously, and very over-the-top highlighting, but overall I thought it turned out well!  Hey, it was a good practice run for the eventual toy soldier collections coming his way:)

My buddy's 25mm AWI collection... for sale:)

Hi all!

Well, as mentioned, my buddy is looking to sell his 25mm AWI collection!

I thought I would put the photos up here, because they are fantastic eye candy, but for much more info (such as what units are what, painting quality, and of course price!) head over to his blog:
