15mm ACW - Federal Sharpshooters

Happy New Years everyone!

Well, before I head back to the party, I thought I would post up at least one more set of miniatures for the New Year!

This is a unit of U.S. Sharpshooters. They are made up of Battle Honors infantry, painted in the traditional green of Berdan's.

Unfortunately, these guys really were just figures from the regular infantry pack, which was a bit disappointing.

So, I decided to do a little work on them to make them stand out. First off, I based them 3 to a stand, rather than five like my regular infantry. I then used very thin wire to add scopes to a single rifle per stand. I think it does look good and it makes the troops stand out a bit.

I also landscaped the stands a bit more than normal. One stand has a log on it, one has a dead Confederate, the command stand has a rock on it, and the last has a bush on it. I feel like these touches helped really finish the stands and make them look a bit more like the skirmishers that they are.

15mm ACW - Federal Infantry 3

After a bunch of posts of the whole mess, I thought I would finally get back to a unit showcase!

This is a traditional unit of blue-clad Federal infantry. I have a bunch of these guys, all the same blue and wearing the standard issue kepi (for the most part.) Most of my ACW troops are interchangeable among units, with a single exception on the Confederate side and three or four exceptions on the Federal side (two units of Black Hats and two units of Zouaves...) You can actually see one of the aforementioned Zouaves, albeit dead, on one of the stands of this regiment... I thought that would tie them all together nicely!

15mm ACW - Federal Infantry 2

In honor of the upcoming Fall In, I thought I would get back to the 15mm ACW collection with a nice unit of infantry!

This is the second most popular Federal ACW unit, behind the most popular (the Irish Brigade; see my last ACW post!) and in front of the Iron Brigade:) The 14th Brooklyn is a nice unit for the Union side as it breaks up the usual dark blue/light blue routine. This is a nice unit, clearly in the midst of a firefight, with a few guys ready to bring the attack to the enemy. There are a few dead on the stands, and I made sure to include a dead man from this regiment in another regiment in my Federal army to tie it in.

15mm ACW - Federal Command 2

Time for a little more 15mm ACW!

This time it is the second set of commanders that I have for my Federal collection. Unlike my "Officers gathered at a table" command stand, this one is a bit more appropriate for the front line. Two officers on horseback consult, one pointing out the weakness in the line and where they need more troops.

Time for another 15mm ACW Federal unit; this time, it is the Irish Brigade!

Like all units, the Irish have a few casualties scattered among their bases... clearly they have been in some serious combat! Most of my Federal army is wearing kepis, with a few exceptions, and the army overall matches very well. The iconic Irish Brigade flag, with the golden harp in the center, is courtesy of Rick "The Flag Dude" O'Brien, whose link is to the left.

15mm ACW - Federal Command 1

Time for the North to strike back!

In the spirit of "mixing it up," I thought I would showcase the beginning of my 15mm ACW Federal collection. I build most of my collections to mirror each other, so this guy is the mirror for the similar CSA command stand. A cavalry officer has apparently just dismounted and run up to show the Federal commander where the Rebs are. A pair of guards stand and keep watch, as an adjunct scribbles down notes in the background.
