Warhammer - Skaven Plague Monks

Hey all,

Well, it has been awhile since I posted... sorry, work is at the busy time... however, I am also getting my Warhammer Skaven army ready for sale, so I thought I would post one or two shots of them! Hope the historical folks don't mind!

Anyway... as noted, I have a decent sized Skaven army. This here is a unit of Plague Monks that I did. They are led by a Plague Lord. The standard is a crucified Averlander... this was made as a mocking of my best buddy's Averland army, as they would face eachother across the table... I think it is rather amusing.

BTW, just for reference; this unit has been hit with ArmyPainter Quickshade of the Hard variety. It worked pretty well at picking out the shadows.

Overall this is one of my favorite units... real nasty guys!

25mm Nap. Austrians - 5th Infantry Reg.

Done!

I am heading right back to 25mm Napoleonic Russians immediately, but thought I would show my first finished
units of Austrians!

As stated in a multitude of posts, I did a very basic paint job on these guys and then dipped them in the Army Painter Light Shade. I then went back and added eyes and rewhitened belts, and then some Flag Dude flags finished them off! Overall I am happy with the way they turned out; very easy to do. I need to make up some movement trays, but I think I'll wait on that until the Russians are finished.

One bit of bad news; my matte varnish left a bit of the dreaded white film over the frontmost rank (of course, the front rank.) Thankfully they are white anyway, but you can see it on their helmets for sure. I am super annoyed by this, and might go back and do some repainting... for now, though, I am too annoyed to care.

25mm Napoleonic - Three Nations of Infantry

I got a little carried away with taking photos tonight, and took a single shot of a base of each of my 25mm Napoleonic armies; French, the oldest army, is on the viewers left, the Russians (the current project) are in the center, and the Austrians, my next project, are on the right.

The French are Old Glory (the non-Guard units are Perrys,) the Russians are Foundry, and the Austrians are Sash and Saber.

The Workbench - Armyshade Austrians WIP

Howdy all.

I couldn't help it; I took a break from my 25mm Russians in order to do a single unit of 25mm Napoleonic Austrians with my new quickshade.

Here is a little WIP shot; they still need to
be grassed and touched up a tiny bit (eyes) and I'll see if I can get a better photo, but so far so good. I have finished one stand (minus the standard) and have included the close up here, front and back. I've experimented with "painting" their packs and muskets with only brown ink over the white undercoat... not sure how I like it yet, I'll have to think about it.

I have not yet attached the magnetic bottoms to the rest of them; I will do that shortly.

I am also waiting on their colours; a call into Rick O'Brien set me up, and they should be arriving in the nearer future. Once those are on, I have to attach the magnetic bottoms to the rest of the unit, make a movement tray, and do the rest of the grassing and touching up, and these guys will be good to go!

The quick shade is pretty effective; I needed to pat them down just a touch to take off a tiny bit, but they responded well. I'll work on getting some better photos, as these are only so-so...

The Workbench - more army-painted Austrians

Howdy all!

Well... while I should be working on my unfinished Russian grenadiers, for the life of me I can't get started; I just want to paint and dip Austrians!

So... I figured I would indulge. Here is another Austrian painted in REAL basic colors and then dipped. Belts were redone in white after the dip, and the eyes were done post-dip as well.

Total paint time was approx. 26 minutes, give or take. Understand also that it took a bit longer than usual because A) I had to open each paint instead of batch painting and B) I haven't painted a German Austrian before, so it took a while to do everything.

As usual, on the left is the pre-dip, and on the right is the post-dip.

Also, I thought I would end it with a shot of my two finished Austrians (here is the first guy) together. An army of these guys will look SHARP.

The Workbench - Army Paintered Austrians

Well, I was not satisfied with working just on a warhammer figure, so I thought I would throw together a Hungarian infantryman to dip and test!

The left hand side of both shots are the pre-dip; a very basic paintjob with no highlights or shades, just a basic color. The right hand side is post shade and dull coat, as well as the addition of an eye and a fresh coat of white on the belts to really make them stand out. Below is a re-worked guy, with his face highlighted (nose, chin) and then re-washed; I think it looks MUCH better, and I will continue to refine.
Painting white couldn't be any easier!

The Workbench - Army Painter

Hey all.

In anticipation of my next project, an army of 25mm Napoleonic Austrians, I decided to buy and test out a jar of Army Painter Quick Shade. This stuff is basically a can of stain that you dip your figures into (otherwise known as... a dip!) I got the Light Shade, as my Austrians will be largely in white.

I have a very large Warhammer Fantasty Middenheim army, which is a perfect test base because of how much white there is on the figures; I am undercoating an Austrian today to see how he turns out, but for now, here is how my old Empire guys look.

The basic paintjob is on the left. It is SUPER super basic; one color on most spots, a quick highlight on the blue, and that is it. Rather crappy, really.

The next two are after being dipped; the middle guy got shaken off five or so times, the rightmost guy got shaken off 2 times. I wanted to see how the look would change if I left them with a little bit more stain on them.

I think they turned out very nice; I am excited to paint up an Austrian army. In the meantime I'll take care of my Empire army, and then sell it off. If anyone is interested, let me know!
