Some 10mm Napoleonic photos from a game with my son!

Hi all!

Whelp, I played a fairly simple 10mm Napoleonic game with my son, so I thought I would share some photos!

He was the French, I was the British.  He initially had two of his infantry divisions come onto the field together, and began to advance towards the fields and forest in front of him.

Here are his men advancing, Guard in the lead!

His cavalry and artillery came on in the center of the table, and his cavalry immediately began to move towards the center.

Meanwhile I had a single infantry division arrive and take up position in the woods... the rest of my men hadn't come to the battle yet!

Here is the French marshal, contemplating his next move!

Finally another British infantry division, my elites, entered the battle, but at the far end of the field!

The French cavalry advanced, forcing some of my men into square.

The French cavalry then turned and threatened my newly-arrived elite division, forcing them to halt and (after this photo was taken) get into square.)

The rest of the French infantry arrived to support their attack on the woods.

The attack on the woods was fierce!

And while my few infantry fought, they couldn't hold off basically the entire French army.

My cavalry then came to the field, and harassed his cavalry, chasing them down and killing many of them to let my elite division advance.

The French press the woods, with a newly arrived division of Brunswickers trying to support the British.

One French cavalry division tried to break the British squares, but couldn't.

You can see the fight for the woods on the near flank, and in the far corner you can see the elite British infantry push the French cavalry away.

Another shot.

The French pushed the British out of the woods and began to swing through them to engage the British in the center and the oncoming British elite division, while a British cavalry brigade moved behind them, forcing many of the French into square.

I brought my elite division up finally, but there were simply too many French left, so I had to retreat!

Here is what was left of my son's French army at the end... he whupped me good!

First Dungeoncrawler playtest!

Hey all!

As promised, here is a bit more from the first playtest of the new Dungeoncrawler playtest!

So, as I said, we took two heroes... I took a human mage, and my buddy took a human warrior.

The first room in the dungeon was a small room, with a few orcs and a few goblins in it.  (Ignore the treasure piles above, they were acting as door placeholders.)

We fought bravely... the warrior tanked the fights as best he could, although a few orcs and goblins made it to the wizard, whose fireball spells did some damage.

Soon the enemies were cut down, and we checked out our loot... a few crappy helmets, but the Ring of Combat was an amazing early-game find!

We continued through the hallways of the dungeon for a bit, with no enemies in sight...

... until we came to another small room a few armored orcs in it!  This was a BEAST of a fight; the mage's fireball spell was KEY in killing the orcs, but they did a bunch of damage.  Their 2d6 worth of armor, combined with the warrior being only armed with a short sword, make this fight tough.

We moved on through the dungeon after we defeated the creatures, turning left into a large room with a big statue in the middle... and smack dab into a HUGE horde of orcs and goblins, with an ogre in support!

Again we let the warrior tank the fight, as the wizard was already hurt from the last fights.  The wizard blasted away with a new magic scroll he had found, a Lighting scroll, which allowed him to hit several opponents at once... focusing on the ogre really beat the massive creature up, and eventually the party was able to bring down their foes.

Our intrepid heroes pick through the loot!

We proceeded on, going through a door on the opposite wall (which isn't in the photos above for some reason?) and bam... another horrible encounter.  This time we had orcs and goblins coming from behind, and more from the front!

Here we panicked a bit... we fled backwards, as the wizard fired off a few shots with his newly-acquired bow... the idea was to get away from the open space and into a more confined space, where the warrior could do most of the heavy lifting.  And the bad guys swamped us, knocking down both heroes health, the ogre in particular hitting hard.

Again the wizard proved hugely helpful, using his lighting spell to blast life off of several guys, and the warrior finished them off!

Soon the ogres and most of the orcs were dead, and there were just the goblins to deal with... and somehow our heroes made it through!

We then went north a bit, finding another empty small room, and then down a corridor... where two more ogres were waiting, and the scurry of feet in the darkness behind us turned out to be some orcs!

The heroes retreated, trying to find a good place to fight from...

... and the ogres leapt on the warrior, beating on him with their clubs.  The wizards lighting scroll did a bunch of damage before burning out, and the warrior was able to survive and finish off the two ogres.

That left the orcs to deal with, who the heroes managed to dispatch as well!

We called the game at that point, having made some significant modifications to the rules and some big changes to several aspects of it.  Taken overall, however, the game REALLY really worked; it was fun and exciting and incredibly well balanced, while being SERIOUSLY intuitive!

Here are our characters at the end... the warrior had a leather helm, a shield, and some plate mail, along with a short sword and a pair of scrolls (fireball and healing) he was holding on to... the wizard had his bow, a newly-found scroll of lighting (the equipment deck was poorly shuffled and still all in one deck, resulting in a LOT of good gear being found when it shouldn't have... but whatever, we were just testing:) ), his ring of combat, and some leather armor and a leather helmet.

So that's it!  I'll have more as we work on the game!

Thanks for coming by!

Vikings vs Franks... time for a throw-down!

Hey all!

Well, I had a few friends come by today... the Joes, and my buddy Sean... and we did a little game, so we could push some figures around!

This time it was a swords-and-shields game... Vikings vs Franks.

Here are the Vikings, defending their home (I know, Franks didn't invade the Viking lands much.  Just roll with it.)  Two units of infantry, some berzerkers, some archers, warhounds with their master, and a few heroes.

Here are the Franks... three units of infantry, and two of archers.

Beautiful figures, too... my buddy Sean's.

Here is one of the Frankish heroes, ready for the fight!

And here is the other.

Here you can see the battlefield, from the Frankish side of the field.

The Franks prepare to advance across the field.

The Vikings, meanwhile, leave their camp near the ship and begin to move inland.

The Franks begin to advance.

Another shot, from the Viking side this time.

The Vikings begin to move through the village... I was handling the right flank (nearest to you) and was moving to the hill on the right, while Joe Sr. tool his force off to the left.

My berzerkers lead the advance past the houses...

The Frankish archers move to rocks in the center of the field, preparing to cover both flanks with fire.

Here is a shot from the Viking left flank... Joe Sr. advances his men towards the hill, while on the far side my Vikings move to meet Sean's Franks.

My guys move past the village...

... while Sean's troops move up the hill.

The two sides continue advancing towards each other, and...

... the Viking left flank charges up the hill into combat!

Meanwhile the Viking right moves up the hill...

Here is a shot of the whole battlefield.

The Viking left is a mess!  Axes and swords cleaving, spears thrusting, shields splintering...

... and the lines beat each other back and forth, Joe Sr. vs Joe Jr.

Meanwhile, on the right, my guys rush up the hill and smash into Sean's Franks.

They begin hacking each other down.

The fight on the left continues unabated, with more and more men falling under the frenzied attacks.

On the right the fight continues on the wooded hill. More and more men fall dead, and the two sides begin to falter.

Finally the surviving Frankish troops on the right are pushed down the hill, and begin a tactical withdrawal towards the center, where the archers await.

The fight on the left begins to turn against the Vikings... more and more Norsemen fall under Frankish weapons.

In the center the Vikings chase down the retreating Franks, but the archers leap into the fight, along with a few troops from the reserve on the flank.

On the left the Vikings fall one after another, until only the Viking hero is left!  Surrounded, he hacks and slashes at everyone around him.

In the center the Franks get pushed back again, but the Vikings start to lose steam.

The last Viking on the left flank finally falls, surrounded by nearly a half dozen Franish enemies.

It was right around here that it ended, as there were only a few Vikings left in the center, who finally turned tail and ran!

Overall, a fun afternoon of hacking and slashing!
