My father, who deals in antique books, recently returned from an auction with a small gift!
This piece, which will soon hang in the wargames room, is a handkerchef produced for the French government in Rouen sometime between 1886 and 1888 in order to quickly train conscripts. It is in good shape (better than the photo makes it appear; the stains are not so noticeable in person) and is very neat; around the outsides it features woodcuts showing how to do certain military duties, while in the center it shows how to operate the Lebel rifle.
If anyone knows more about this I would be happy to hear from you!
