A true hero. Each time one of these vets passes it leaves us poorer for their absence.

Amen. We do a ceremony every year with the vets in the town I work in, and I am always amazed how few WWII vets there are. We really do lose a giant resource every time we lose one of these guys.

And yeah, Major Winters seems like about as good, reasonable, and responsible as a man can be. His book was fantastic. A huge, huge loss.

Glad someone commented. This is, to me, one of the biggest "stories" of the year:(
