Which should I buy?

Hi all!

Well, my birthday just came and went, and as a gift I got a gift card for some books; specifically, to replace some lost Sharpes books!

So.. Which ones do folks think I should get?  Maybe one or two from India?  Some of the original series?  Something different, like Trafalgar?

Any advice very, very welcome!

Working on another 25mm Richard Sharpe and Harper

Hi all!

A buddy of mine has a pretty great Napoleonic collection...

And asked if wanted to contribute something!  I said "But of course!"

So, he gave me a converted Sharpe and Harper to paint up.

Now, Sharpe is actually wearing the greatcoat he is often seen wearing on the show, seen below in a photo from "The Sharpe Dressed Man".

Harper is dressed in more the traditional Rifle uniform.  They have a bit more work left on them and then obviously the matte varnish, which will help GREATLY... right now they are so glossy it is hard to look at them!  Still, I think they look pretty sharpe... can't wait to see them based up and joining the army!

25mm Battlefield 3 Miniatures - Metro and Seine- finished!

Hey all!

Okay, I FINALLY got a few minutes away from the baby to finish my two Battlefield 3 projects!

Now, I play BF3 pretty religiously... like, at least one night a week is spent rumbling around in a tank or blasted choppers out of the sky with my IGLA.  I have always loved video games, and the UNPARALLELED multiplayer of BF3 sucked me in like no ones business!

One of the things that make BF3 so much fun is two of the guys I play with!  One is a guy I "met" online; we played together, we were both good and could talk, so we buddied up.  Another is a friend I met through a very close friend.  The three of us have been playing BF3 every week for... well, for two years I suppose.  It is a good little video game group.

So, when I saw these BF3 miniatures from Hasslefree Miniatures, I knew I wanted to do up a little gift for each guy!

Here is the first one.  My one buddy is a pretty good sniper, although to be fair, he is good at every class.  He really enjoys Operation Metro, so I did a sniper going through the tunnels on Metro.  I tried to add all sorts of details from the game, including an ammo pack.  Other bits from the game include the warning sign on the edge of the platform, and of course the seats and the sign.  Overall I think it turned out pretty good.  Below is one of the photos I used for reference.

This is the one for my other buddy, Bill.  He is a HUGE fan of Seine Crossing, and tends to camp out in the building that overlooks A and C objectives on Conquest.  So I made up a rough version of that door (as seen below).  Again, I tried to add a few details from the game, including a med pack and, on the stairs, a claymore.  Unfortunately I did make him an engineer, even though he is usually a machine gunner on this level, but what can you do!

Anyway... so, I'm going to ship them off in the next day or so; I hope they enjoy them!

My "homemade" Star Wars cards

Hi all!

Well, I found a use for extra "unique" cards in Star Wars... make up a few of the cards I don't have!

Now, I have no plans on investing in any of the large ships (which are the only way of getting modifications) or in the X-Wing or TIE expansion, as I have three core sets worth.  But I want some of the cards!  So... just printed out a few, backed them on the real cards (in the case of modifications I used extra R2D2s and other astromechs) and voila!

Help finding a figure?

Okay, I am looking to find the best possible Napoleonic British naval captain in either 25mm or 40mm.  Anyone know of a particular figure that might work?

My Imperial X-Wing force!

Hi all!

Well, I finally got around to snapping some photos of my Imperial force for X-Wing!

It consists of six TIE Fighters, three TIE Interceptors, and two TIE Advanceds.  I figure that should be all I need for a while:)  I did go through after I got the TIE Interceptors, which have a blue hue, and did a little paint work, so that all the ships would match.  Pretty simple; just did a blue-grey wash on all the ships.

Here is my first set of TIE Fighters.  I did a little work with paint on one, so it can represent any special character TIE Fighter I might purchase.  I find it is easier when the special guys stand out.

Here is my second wing of TIE Fighters.

Here are my three Interceptors.  As with the first set of TIEs, I did the red stripes on one of the Interceptors, so if I buy a named pilot that ship can easily represent him.

And finally, here are my two Advanceds.  I run one almost always as Vader; I haven't run both in one game yet!

Your favorite wargame unit?

Hi all!

So, I was recently skimming through blogs, and looking at some of the FANTASTIC wargames units out there, and it got me thinking... of all the wargames units I can remember seeing, which is my favorite?

Tough, right?  I mean, I have a few that I adore... I mean, I love the siege guns over at Echoes of Glory...

And I adore Der Alte Fritz's artillery...

But my favorite wargames unit of all time?  I think it is Dave Taylor's Cameron Highlanders!

Just check out the rearing horse with the commander urging his men on!  Beautiful paint, beautiful scene... and, I think, my favorite wargames unit!

So, I wanted to ask; what is YOUR favorite (not your own) wargames unit?

Post them in the comments; I'll do a whole post of the favorites so we can all feast on some eye candy!:)

Base for second Battlefield 3 scene undercoated

Well, the basics are done for my second Battlefield 3 scene.  This one is made to look like Seine Crossing.  I've still got a few bits to do, but for now, here it is!

A simple house rule for X-Wing

Okay... was thinking a bit about how to add a bit more strategy to movement... right now it seems like it is a "run at the enemy, pass him, K turn" rinse and repeat.

So... here is my proposal.

First, all regular fighters have four "sides"; their front fire arc (as already defined) a rear arc (the reverse of the front fire arc) and two side arcs. You'd have to maybe draw the rear arc onto the card.

Then add this rule:

If you are attacking an enemy ship in its side arc, you may reroll one attack die.

If you are attacking an enemy ship in its rear arc, you may reroll one attack die AND you may force the enemy to reroll one agility die.

I have to sit and look at the ships to figure out how you determine exactly if you are in an arc, but I think a post-to-post line should help determine which fire arc you are in.


My hope is that this might make people more interested in things like attacking from the flank and even getting behind enemies.

I am not sure if it would work with the big ships, as they are rather large and I don't have any to look at.
